Seventeen decorated boats are stirring the Putrajaya Lake to life for a few nights this week for Magic of the Night 2015. The event, which is already in its fifth year, showcases boats from various states in Malaysia, with one special entry from China and also Putrajaya Lake Cruise as well as Tourism Malaysia. Each boat features a dazzling combination of lights, colours and unique architectures that showcase the icons, cultures, heritage and traditions of each respective state. Combined with music and songs (which reflect the theme of each boat and/or state) that play in the background, I was transported to different states throughout Malaysia, readily imagining of places to go and things to do. And yes, not to forget, what to eat as well.
If we take just a moment to reflect on this, we can easily realise how Malaysia has a multitude of cultures, heritage and traditions despite its relative small size compared to other countries.

Talking about food, Magic of the Night 2015 also has a section where there are food stalls representing each state in Malaysia too. There’s nasi dagang from Terengganu, mee kolok from Sarawak, soups from Kedah, char kuey teow from Penang, satay tulang from Negeri Sembilan and many, many more, one might feel torn trying to decide whether to stay in the food stalls area or go to the lake to watch the boat cruise parade. ;)
Anyways, here are some photos that I took at the event.
So which boat do you like best?
Overall, it was quite a colourful night indeed. Magic of the Night 2015 lasts until 11.00 p.m. Sunday 31st May 2015. If you're going there by public transport, there's a free shuttle service every 30 minutes from Putrajaya Central Station to the event site starting from 4.30 p.m.

wow, that is a fantastic show, I would love to see this in person one day!
ReplyDeleteYou should. There's also an annual flower show event happening at the same time in Putrajaya as well, you can easily spend the whole day taking photos in the city.
DeleteWow what a cool event! Great photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lindsay.

The lights reflecting from the boats to water make these images so special!
ReplyDeleteI wished the water was more still. And I wished I had a better lens. Okay, I still want to have a better lens.

So pretty! What beautiful scenery. I'd love to see these illuminations for myself - they look so festive!
ReplyDeleteIt was quite festive. Not only you could enjoy these illuminations, you could also try out local delicacies and visit the nearby flower show as well.

In Southern California, we have a Christmas boat parade and I always found it so beautiful and magical but this is an entirely different level. Stunning photos! Now I want to add it to my list.
ReplyDeleteNight photography is so very difficult. Your photos make it look deceptively easy. What a beautiful event this must have been to see in person. We love Malaysia, and I'm realizing there is so much more to see even though we've visited twice.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I had no idea that Malaysia have something like this! To be honest, I've only seen something like this at Disneyland with their Fantasmic show but this is quite fascinating! Love all the decorations on the boats!
ReplyDeleteI like the Melaka boat the best. You've got some really good photos there too :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing a fabulous event - the boats look amazing and I don't think I could pick a favourite!
ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose a favorite, it would be the Tourism Malaysia boat. Which one was your favorite?
ReplyDeleteWhat a magical parade! Your pictures of the event are fantastic and make me want to be there myself. A parade in the light of day is so wonderful to see - but at night, all the better!
